Subrenat is a hamlet outside Douchapt, an ex-monastery village close to the river Dronne, about 8kms east of Riberac. This region of the Dordogne, named Perigord Blanc for the colour of the local stone, is ideal for peaceful, self-catering family holidays |
| Bedrooms: 3 |
Accommodates: 6 |
The Property:
A large Perigord style house and barn built of stone with the original oak beams. It was built in 1645 but has been renovated to a high standard. The fully equipped kitchen/diner has an oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer. There are three large bedrooms (two double and two single beds), two bathrooms, a lounge and a dining room, wood stoves plus baby gates, a cot and a high chair if needed.
Bed linen is provided but not towels.
The grounds:
Outside there is a patio at the back and front, with furniture and a barbecue. There is a large and enclosed sunny garden, a walnut grove and an orchard with irises and orchids. The plums, apples and pears are coming on well, the truffle oaks will take a few more years. There is no pool since the choice was between a pool or the walnut trees.
Nearby:
Subrenat provides a comfortable environment for a peaceful, self-catering family holiday. Try trips to the market followed by lunch on the patio, Dinner from the barbecue and walks in the woods. Swimming in the Dronne or in the pools at Riberac or La Jamaye. Tennis in Riberac. Fishing outside Lisle. Golf, the museum and the old city in Perigueux, the capital of the Dordogne. Two bikes in the barn; they can also be hired in Tocane. Riding at Tocane and Bourdeilles. Canoes for hire at Brantome and Bourdeilles.
It is about 5 minutes drive to the nearest shops and bank/cashpoint. The closest town, Riberac, about 8kms away, has more banks and several supermarkets open on Sundays in the holiday season. There is a local market every weekday and the restaurants in the area cover the complete spectrum from the village bar to major gastronomic experiences.
For excursions, Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Rocamadour, Domme, Bergerac, the Dordogne itself and Monbazillac are all drivable and cope well with the holiday season. The route to St Emilion runs through vineyards showing famous names on the signposts. Brantome is close; a very pretty town which is presented as the Venice of Perigord because the Dronne divides around it. There is an excellent market on Fridays and many opportunities for serious or otherwise riverside lunches. There is an impressive view over the valley from the church at Montagrier and the Chateau in Bourdeilles
