The Property:
The house is set in over an acre of secluded gardens with a newly built 12m x 6m swimming pool, which has lighting and Roman steps. Our pool is now fenced in compliance with the new pool safety regulations. There are 2 beautifully restored properties on this site, which can be let separately or together providing accommodation for up to 10 people. Each house has its own patio area with garden furniture and barbecue.
LES MIRABELLES is a detached property, which sleeps up to 8 persons. Downstairs: Lounge, bright and spacious with TV (English channels) and video. Feature fireplace and ample, comfortable seating. Two sets of French doors provide access to the garden. Kitchen, large dining/kitchen with a typical French traditional dining table and chairs. The kitchen area is well equipped and has a gas cooker, microwave,dishwasher, fridge/freezer. Door opens on to the Verandah. Cloakroom with wc. Storage space and automatic washing machine. Family Bedroom, large and airy with 2 single and 1 child’s beds. Independent access by door from the garden. Open plan staircase to upper floor.
Upstairs: Family Bedroom. Large and bright with 1 double and 1 child’s beds. Bathroom. Roomy with blue suite comprising of washbasin, bidet, toilet and bath with shower.
Mezzanine Bedroom. Large and comfortable with double bed and sitting area. For convenience there is a mezzanine style staircase leading down to the lounge. However, this bedroom can also be accessed by the corridor leading to the staircase.
BOOKING REQUIREMENTS: All prices are per week and include bed linen, gas and electricity. A 25% non-refundable deposit is required at time of booking, balance to be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival. In addition a £100 cash breakages/cleaning deposit, returnable within 1 month of departure is required with final payment. Please note smoking is not allowed in the properties.
CHANGEOVER DAY: Bookings run Saturday 4pm to Saturday 10am.
The grounds:
Les Mirabelles is a detached house and has a pretty verandah (with barbecue) outside the kitchen, which has a garden table and chairs making this the perfect place to eat or just sit and study the magnificent views. The house is set in over an acre of secluded gardens, which has swings and table tennis. A selection of bicycles are supplied for guests to use. There is also an impressive, newly built 12m x 6m swimming pool (shared with the owners), which has lighting, Roman steps and a solar powered shower. A poolside patio area has ample pool loungers and parasols.
Nearby:
Although the setting is rural with stunning views, there are plenty of supermarkets, restaurants and things to do and see nearby. There is something to suit everybody’s interest in the Dordogne. For example, close by is the renowned nature reserve of Les Tourbières Site de Vendoire with its nature museum and restaurant. Here you can take leisurely country walks, hire boats or fish. Golf(18 hole courses at Angoulême and Perigueux and a good 9 hole course at St Severin), tennis, horse riding, canoeing, 10-pin bowling, gokarting and mountain-biking are all within easy reach.
In St Paul Lizonne (10 mins drive), there is an 18 hole Mini Golf Course and not to be missed is a visit to Ricochet Ranch, where all the family can have a fun filled time with a ride on a pony, a tractor driven ride in a trailer, visit and feed the animals, play in the play park and wigwams, then finish off with refreshments at the snack bar. For the gastronomes there are numerous splendid restaurants in the vicinity. A good variety of shops, supermarkets, banks, etc., are all within easy reach at nearby Verteillac, Ribérac, St. Severin, Villebois Lavalette and Mareuil. Even the small, tranquil village of Champagne et Fontaine, just a few minutes away, boasts an excellent small self-service grocer’s shop, boulangerie, post office and pub/tabac. Here you can sit outside in the pretty, little square, sample a glass of the local Charente speciality Pineau and absorb the friendly atmosphere.. Those who enjoy the bustling French markets will find plenty to choose from. Also, there are many fetes and festivals going on throughout the summer. The capital of the Dordogne, which is still referred to by the locals by its original name of Périgord, is Perigueux. This, the historical towns of Aubeterre, Nontron, Brantôme and the Charente town of Angoulême are all well worth a visit. There are 1001 châteaux in the Périgord, as well as caves with prehistoric paintings to be visited. Périgordian cuisine is world-renowned for its 'foi gras', truffles and confit de canard. There is a beautiful man made beach at Aubeterre (about 20 mins drive) and there is a large lake with beaches at La Jemaye (about 45 mins drive), which has many attractions and restaurants as well as being suitable for swimming. The beach at Royan is approx. 80 mins drive and at Archachon on the coast, about 2 hours away, is the Dune du Pyla, the highest sand dune in Europe.
Also further afield is Futuroscope, which is situated near Poitiers, 2 hours drive. It combines the latest cinematic developments with the entertainment and fun of a theme park. Also, approximately 2 hours away, is Limoges, which is famous for its porcelain. There are many interesting historical and archaeological sights to see and this property is a perfectly situated base to explore from. Or, you can simply relax round the pool with a glass or two of the local vin rouge! In any case you will have an enjoyable holiday here in France where you are assured of a warm Scottish welcome from the owners, Alister and Anna Anderson.
